Overlevingsbias
De publieke en metaforische naam die op deze site wordt gebruikt om het diepe existentiële selectieveffect te beschrijven dat ervoor zorgt dat waarnemers alleen zeer geordende, fijn afgestemde realiteiten ervaren. Als je bestaat, *moet* je universum stabiel lijken.
Het Vormende Selectie-effect
De formele, technische term voor Survivor's Bias binnen het academische kader van de Ordered Patch Theory. Het onderscheidt de existentiële noodzaak van het observeren van een geordend kosmos van louter statistische bias in alledaagse gegevensverzameling.
Compressiecodec
Een structurele, abstracte beschrijving van de stabiele regelmatigheden die binnen een patch worden waargenomen. De natuurwetten (fysica, thermodynamica, biologie) zijn geen "dingen" die onafhankelijk bestaan, maar zijn de regels van de codec die de oneindige chaos succesvol comprimeren tot een overleefbaar verhaal.
Geordende Patch
Een zeldzame, hooggestructureerde informatieve subruimte die tijdelijk wordt gehandhaafd tegen de achtergrond van oneindige ruis. Elke bewuste waarnemer bewoont precies één geordende patch, van waaruit zij hun realiteit decoderen.
De Weergave
De subjectieve, fenomenologische wereld die door de waarnemer wordt ervaren (het universum zoals jij het ziet). Het is de gedecodeerde output van de compressiecodec die met succes de ruwe datastroom voorspelt.
Stabiliteitsfilter
Het wiskundige mechanisme (essentieel geformaliseerd als minimalisatie van Vrije Energie) dat alleen coherente, tijd-continue, lage-entropie causale verhalen toestaat om bewuste ervaring te ondersteunen. De rest van het oneindige substraat blijft ongedifferentieerd potentieel.
Structurele Hoop
De ethische en ontologische implicatie van de Ordered Patch Theory. Terwijl je geïsoleerd bent in je eigen patch, garandeert de oneindige combinatorische aard van het substraat dat elke "ander" waarmee je interactie hebt ook bestaat als een primaire waarnemer die hun *eigen* parallelle patch verankert. Je bent epistemisch geïsoleerd, maar ontologisch vergezeld.
Narratieve Verval
Het proces waarbij onsamendrukbaar geluid (entropie) de lokale codec overweldigt. Opwarming van de aarde, democratische ineenstorting en gewelddadige conflicten zijn niet louter fysieke gebeurtenissen; het zijn symptomen van het breken van de weergave omdat het geluid de bandbreedte van de waarnemer heeft overschreden.
Active Inference
The continuous process by which the observer's boundary predicts incoming sensory data and corrects its internal model when predictions fail — spending energy to stay ahead of the chaos. Formalized by Karl Friston's Free Energy Principle, it is what Helmholtz called "unconscious inference" given thermodynamic teeth. In OPT, Active Inference is the mechanism by which the patch stays coherent: to stop predicting is to dissolve.
Render-on-Focus
The parsimony principle that high-resolution details do not "exist" in the observer's stream until actively demanded by attention or instrument. The atomic structure of a distant star, the bark on the back of a tree — these are not computed until the observer's focus requests them to maintain causal consistency. This keeps the informational cost of sustaining a cosmos near zero: the universe is largely an un-rendered abstraction except at the 50-bit focal point.
Markov Blanket
The statistical boundary separating an observer's internal states from the external substrate. Sensory states receive signals from outside; active states project outward; internal states are shielded by this surface from the raw noise of the substrate. Each Markov Blanket bounds exactly one primary observer. In OPT, the Markov Blanket is not a physical membrane but a mathematical boundary condition: the surface at which "inside" ends and "outside" begins.
Mathematical Saturation
The predicted asymptote where formal descriptions of physical phenomena at extremely high energy scales become as informationally complex as the phenomena themselves (maximum Kolmogorov complexity). Beyond this boundary, mathematical models do not converge to a single "true" equation — they proliferate. This is why OPT predicts that a Grand Unified Theory will remain out of reach: not because physics is weak, but because the grammar of the observer cannot fully describe the noise of the substrate beneath it. A single elegant parameter-free unification would falsify OPT.
Informational Normality
The foundational property of the infinite substrate: that it contains every possible finite pattern of information with non-zero frequency — analogous to a Borel-normal number in mathematics. This is not a speculative add-on; it follows from the definition of an infinite, maximally disordered field. Informational Normality is the mathematical ground of Structural Hope: it guarantees that every structural pattern of consciousness that has ever existed is anchored — in every detail — infinitely many times elsewhere in the substrate.
